Lower 48 Energy Lytham BESS is a 30 MW, 60 MWh BESS project situated due North of Lytham St Annes in the county of Lancashire.

Lower 48 Energy Lytham BESS is a 30 MW, 60 MWh BESS project situated due North of Lytham St Annes in the county of Lancashire.

The project connects at 33 kV to Lytham Bulk Supply Point (BSP) which is located 1 mile south of the project location. The Lytham BESS project connects to the BSP via public roads and hence no third-party easements are required.

Lower 48 Energy Lytham is the first project Lower 48 Energy BESS Limited originated. Lower 48 Energy first filed the grid connection application in June 2021 and received and accepted the full grid offer in January 2022.

Since then, we have exchanged the contracts for an Option Agreement and on the Lease for a period of 35 years with an option to extend for 10 years if required.

Our Planning Consultants - PWA Planning - have completed all the relevant studies required for the Planning Application and we are due to submit a full Planning Application in Q4 2023.

All assessments done thus far vis-à-vis noise, environmental, visual, flood, drainage etc have been positive and we are confident of a full planning approval in the due course.

The BESS site has a flat topography and is very well connected by a network of roads. The current BESS project of 30 MW occupies an area of 1 acre, and we have an option of an additional 2 acres if required to increase the size and capacity of the project in the future.

The project is approved by the Distribution Network Operator subject to enabling works, however, the project is undergoing ‘Project Progression’ via National Grid and we are working with them to finalise the energisation date.

Once commissioned, the project would be structured to participate in all relevant Ofgem approved markets (ancillary, arbitrage, balancing) and would look to commercially contract with a proposed third party 24 MW solar farm which is located adjacent to the BESS project and has received planning consent.
